LADIES LUNCH.- We "Ladies What Lunch" had a ball today, Friday 15th June, at Auberge au Cochon Ventru, Thil sur Arroux.

Whilst consuming a gorgeous, truly delicious lunch, served by a delightful young woman, in most agreeable surroundings, we enjoyed lots of chatty chat and laughter - just what we "Ladies" need now and again !!! After all the gay badinage and as full as tics, we sailed home at one with the world and in glorious sunshine - well there's a thing now - sunshine, whatever next?!!!

Our thanks to Val for suggesting the venue, it was a great success - role on the next time!

READING GROUP.- On Monday 11th June, Burgundy Friend's Book Reading Group met in Sandra's home at 3 p.m., when the book under discussion was Alan Bennett's "A Life Like Other People's". For sundry reasons our numbers were depleted but despite this the discussion was very lively, deep and revealing. Our thanks to Daphne for leading the discussion and for suggesting the book in the first place.

The Group meets again on Monday 10th September, 3 p.m. at Carolyn's Home, when we will consider "In the Garden of Beasts" by Erik Larson. It was agreed to go through the books suggested by members in the order that Mike has sent out to members.

After our debate, we had our usual bevy and comestibles and enjoyed the opportunity for chat of a more general nature.

BOWLING NIGHT-29/05/12, Round Two

Again an excellent turn out on the night of 19 players even though there were a few OLD regulars missing and we all missed Sarah as well.

The standard was at it's usual sparkling level with many different styles on show, I am only glad to report that we did not have anyone disappearing down the lane still connected to their ball, though one member did suggest it might be the only way they were likely to get a good score .

The only shadow on the night was that we had to have a stewards inquiry, which has caused the delay of this report. It concerned a member (Ralph) who being desperate to try and keep his lead, was suspected of trying to bribe another member to take his last throw with a promise of a slice of his pizza or some other favor (June was heard to comment 'she would be so lucky') so it was decided that there would be no action taken as long as Ralph gives me an extra bit of pizza next time.

So on to round three, date to be fixed and please all get some training in.

Thanks to one and all for your support.

BOOK SWAPS.- On the 3rd of June, 15 members of Burgundy Friends put on their video machines and left home to congregate in Derek's and Sandra's home to enjoy being together to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee (and also, by the by, 2 of our members' birthdays!). We raised glasses of bubbles to Her Majesty and wished her many more years of service and, of course. we ate "coronation chicken sandwiches, queen cakes, diamond shortbread and a crown cake" etc., etc. Red, white and blue abounded and so did the Union Flag. Members came suitably attired, some sporting coronation medals, brooches etc. It was a happy event, with no stone left unturned and as always, there was a great deal of chat, laughter and friendship - the point of our gets-together. And oh, there were books swapped too! Good old Burgundy Friends.

STROLLERS GROUP.- "A poor life this if, full of care,/ We have no time to stand and stare." On May the 22nd, 8 stalwart members of Burgundy Friends took a leap of faith and, despite threat of rain, assembled in Santenay for a dander. It was lovely, we chatted as we strolled along and also, we were able to avail of the opportunities to stand and stare "At Beauty's glance, /And watch her feet, how they can dance" - i.e. fields filled to bursting with cow-parsley and buttercups, a river in full spate as it gushed under a floral bridge and dappled horses peacefully grazing.

Sadly the hostelry, to which we had planned to repare for a libation, chose this week to close but never mind, the drives home through the little villages and vine yards helped to console us.

Our thanks to Mike and Ewa for organizing a lovely walk.outing.

REPORT ON THE ART WORKSHOP.- Despite the continuing grim weather, 12 members of Burgundy Friends congregated in Mike's and Eva's home on Friday the 18th May, to enjoy a day's painting. We braved the elements and undertook to represent Ewa,s and Mike's gorgeous view in media various. As always there was heaps of chat and ribald comments but truth to be told all of we amateurs/beginners managed to produce some quite creditable work.

Ewa was SO very supportive and encouraging and we thank her for that. The members present supplied grub for a fab lunch and thus re-energised we returned to our endeavours (no slacking allowed!!!!). After afternoon tea, suffering from artistic wilt, we drifted home for a lightly boiled egg and an early night!!

We thank Ewa and Mike for all their kindness, hospitality and encouragement and we look forward to an Autumn workshop, when the colours in their valley will help to inspire the budding artists.

READING GROUP.- On Monday 14th May, 10 hardy annuals from Burgundy Friends' Book Reading Group assembled in Kris's lovely garden to enjoy a lively discussion on our chosen book of the month "High Plains Tango" by Robert James Waller - a really good read. The said discussion was most ably led by Carolyn and our thanks to her for all her prep. Successfully avoiding being planted out by Kris, we all enjoyed her generous hospitality and our thanks to her for same. Next month we meet on Monday 11th June at Sandra's home, at 3p.m., to discuss "A life Like Other People's by Alan Bennett.

BEAUNE OUTING.- Hubble, Bubble but no toil or trouble!!!

17 members of Burgundy Friends banded together on Friday 27th April for a day on the razzle. Bully off commenced at 10.30 a.m. with a hugely interesting audio tour of Veuve Ambal. This state of the art plant manufactures Crémant, Burgundy's answer to Champagne. It was riveting to view all the robots at work and to learn of the history of this highly successful company. Our visit ended with much sniffing slurping and spitting of their delicious product, all of which set us on our merry ways rejoicing.

We continued the day by having a noisy, chatty and present lunch in a Beaune hostelry and, feeling at one with the world, we floated up into the centre of Beaune to visit Alan Heiss's Fromagerie, as featured in Raymond Blanc's Programme "The Very Hungry Frenchman". On we meandered for a decadent afternoon tea with highly calorific patisseries and never daunted, rounded the day off with more bubbles and general hilarity!!!

We had fun in the company of friends which, of course, is the point of the exercise.

RENDEZ-VOUS.- Friday 30th March. Missing our hostess and a couple of arias due to a stray bug. Opposite two old delinquents Kevin and Philip. At the end and facing up the table Lord Chief Justice Bob Towner totally bored by the proceedings but ready to don the black cap and give sentence. However despite this the liquid opium flowed and spirits were high at the Chez Shao Restaurant. We wish Sandra and Derek a quick recovery.
